5 ways to wear Slowette stripes, with Hannah Rochell

Posted by Sally McLaren on

If there’s one thing I spend a lot of time wearing, it’s striped tops. I wear them under things and over things, every season of the year and for all types of occasions. So it made sense that I should show you a few ways that I am styling my collaboration IVY x Slowette Erin top.

There are just five looks here, but I could have (and will) do many more with my wardrobe. Because although green, pink, yellow and navy stripes might sound like a bit of a difficult thing to style, it’s actually just as easy as your classic navy and white Breton, and once I got started I found it hard to stop!

1: All denim

Sally very wisely suggested that we added a navy stripe to the Slowette signature colours of green, yellow and pink, and it was an excellent idea. It means that it’s super easy to wear with the thing you’re always most likely to team with your stripes (at least, I am): denim. I was thrilled to discover that the width of the sleeves of this shirt are an exact match to the Erin, meaning that the stripes poke out in a very pleasing manner. I expect to be wearing this look once a week for the foreseeable.

2: With florals

I love a stripe with a floral print! And the colours of this embroidered linen skirt from Roake Studio just so happen to complement the colour of the stripes of my Erin. This is the key when clashing prints successfully - try and find similar colour palettes so that the whole looks ties together without looking too busy. An ideal look for a summer party or a casual wedding.

3: With a tie top

Many sustainable brands that use upcycled fabrics produce tie tops like this - this particular one from The Well Worn is made from an old broderie Anglaise fabric that is light and breezy enough to show off my stripes, even when it’s tied up. I’ve paired it with tailored trousers on this occasion, but this top half would look cracking with a pair of shorts (I have a particular pink pair in mind) and Birkenstocks, too.

4: Retro vibes

One of the things I love about our Slowette stripes is that they remind me of the tees I used to wear as a kid, so I thought I’d try a bit of a retro look with a corduroy pinafore dress. I did this exact look with a leopard top underneath and tights at Christmas, but this version feels fresher and more appropriate for spring. Note the colour-matched shoes (these details count!).

5: Jeans (obvs)

I love all of the looks above, but if I’m totally honest with myself, this is the one I am going to wear the most. Because what’s easier to throw on than a pair of jeans and some stripes? It’s an absolute classic uniform that never feels old. I’ve added some coordinating socks from Lanx, and am now on a mission to sort out my sock drawer to pick out the yellow and pink for future days.
